 Pastor's Corner...

Matthew 16:24-25- "Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.  For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it."

Surrender is a tough thing.  In fact, relative to our culture, it's a dirty word.  The thought of denying yourself and allowing an outside entity to become your compass in life doesn't sound appealing.  The idea that losing your life means finding your life seems contrary to any type of rational thinking.  Yet, that's exactly what Jesus commands us as believers to do.  He must know something we don't.  Maybe He knows that in the surrendering we receive something we wouldn't otherwise find.  Maybe, He knows that in following we find fulfillment and purpose in life.  Maybe, He knows that in order to take up our cross we model something that can't be explained in words.  Maybe, Jesus knows that true intimacy with God is not found in controlling and self-preservation, but rather in losing and denying.  Maybe, that's the answer.
